#218 Clyde McCullough

#218 Clyde McCullough
Progress: 1st of this card
109 of 407  26.8% complete
How acquired: $2.74 on ebay
Condition: Good

There is nothing to complain about with this card.  None of the creases are that serious, the corners are rounded but not horribly, no pen marks, not rips, no tears.  I'll take 406 more just like it.  McCullough kicked it around the big leagues as a catcher for 16 seasons (minus 2 for Military Service), but only appeared in a 100 games or more 3 times.  He did make two All-Star teams during his career.  He coached for a handful of teams at various levels after his playing career.  At the age of 65 while on a road trip as a bullpen coach with the San Diego Padres, McCullough was found dead in his hotel room.

Stats: 16 seasons, 2x All-Star, 785 hits

Best Hall of Fame Showing: N/A

  1. According to his obit he was the only guy to appear in a World Series without having played in the regular season. Seems he got back from his military service in 1945 just as the Cubs were wrapping up the pennant and the commish at the time allowed them to put McCullough on their Series roster. He pinch hit once in the Series and whiffed.
