"Fair" is no doubt a generous assessment for this Ray Boone card, but relative to some of the other 52's in my collection, I could make a case that I should be labeling it "good." It's not like I'm selling these on eBay. Picking up a first series need for under $5 is a welcome event. Especially one of a two-time All-Star, and with a name like Boone. Ray is the father of Bob Boone, and grandfather of Bret and Aaron Boone. Per wiki he is also a descendant of pioneer Daniel Boone.
The first series (#1-80) are allegedly more scarce than the 2nd or 3rd (depending on how you classify the 3rd, more on that some other time), but I fully expect it to be the first series I complete. That's more a statement to the lack of star power in the first 80 cards of the set. Andy Pafko (for novelty reasons), Spahn, Rizzuto, and Snider are the high dollar cards that remain, and with the exception of Pafko, they can all be found for under $50 on a fairly regular basis. Which is by no means chump change, but given the daunting task of having to track down a Willie Mays, and eventually all the high numbers, the first series feels within reach. As it stands I have 54 in hand, with 26 to go.
