#69 Virgil Stallcup

#69 Virgil Stallcup
Progress: none, 2nd of this card
How acquired: $1.25 on eBay
Condition: Good

This duplicate Stallcup checked all four boxes on my duplicate list.  The first one is easy, and really the only one that matters, that being "is it a 1952 Topps card?"  Obviously it is.  The next most important factor, "is it cheap priced right?"  They don't come much cheaper than this one.  "Is it an upgrade?" is the next question I ask, though it doesn't really matter if the previous question is a resounding yes, and this Stallcup is in fact a slight upgrade (with the water stain, ink bleeding and all).  Finally I address the Red/Black back question, usually (always so far), this final question doesn't happen until I've already bought the card and have it in hand and remember to look.  By happy accident, my first copy was a black back, making this red back sort of "new" to me.

Stats: 7 seasons, 497 hits, 22 home runs

  1. Definitely an upgrade, at least in my book it is. There are a lot of guys in this set I know nothing about other than having heard their names. But there are a few I've never heard of. This is one of those guys.
