#295 Al Clark

How Acquired: $5.00 on eBay
Condition: Fair

This Clark has seen better days, but he's still come through in one peice and free of any major blemisihes.  It probably hasn't seen a sharp or even non-rounded corner for the better part of a couple decades, it's no stranger to water (I hope it's just water), and I don't know what happened to that right edge, but all in all, this card works fine for me

"Allie" Clark averaged 51 games played a season over a 7 year career, but found his way into this set.  There are a good number of border line guys that found there way into this set, which was probably a combination of Sy Berger struggling to fill out the checklist with all the exclusive Bowman deals in place, fringe guys being more eager to sign for "steak money," and having come up with the Yankees or having played for the Yankees some point also being a coming theme among the non-regulars on the checklist.  Clark was a rookie with the Yankees in '47.

Stats: 7 seasons,  267 hits, 32 home runs, .262 avg.

Best Hall of Fame Showing: N/A

  1. Poked around and noticed that he won World Series titles back-to-back with different teams. Yanks in '47, Indians in '48. He had a teammate, Butch Wensloff, who was on both those teams as well but he only had one at bat in '48 and wasn't in the Series.

I wonder how many guys have done that?
