There are a handful of cards in this set whose market demand defies all logic.  Cloyd Boyer is near the top of that list.  As a pitcher, Cloyd won all of 20 games over five scattered MLB seasons, and then spent a couple of vagabond years as a pitching coach for three different teams.  As far as I can tell, his biggest claim to fame is being the brother of Clete and Ken Boyer.

I would be able to understand the demand for Clete or Ken had they been playing yet and had cards in the '52 set.  Ken Boyer was an MVP and 6x All-Star over 15 seasons.  Clete played in five World Series as the Yankee's everyday third baseman.  Cloyd had an ERA just under five and a losing record in 48 career starts.  Where is this demand coming from?

This card is in terrible shape.  It boasts paper loss, eraser marks from a failed attempt to remove the unlegible pencil lettering across the players face, tape stains, rounded corners and even a small tear along the edge.  And I was still relieved to find one at this price point.  Are the "Best Fans in Baseball" confusing Cloyd for Ken?

Stats: 5 seasons, 20 wins, 23 loses, 4.73 ERA
