#168 Charlie Silvera

#168 Charlie Silvera
Progress: None, 2nd of this card
How acquired: $5.50 on ebay
Condition: Good

This is definitely an upgrade from my first Silvera.  Not that the first one was in all that bad of shape, this one is just nicer.

Silvera somehow managed a mere 482 at-bats over ten seasons.  Allegedly he was pretty good, and the card makes mention of this fact.  The Yankees were just content to let him rot on the bench rather than risk him helping out another team.  I'm not old enough to remember this practice, but I'm told the Yankees had a lot of guys like this.   Guys who rode pine or sat in the minors because of the Yankees wealth of talent, despite being talented enough to start on most teams.
